Notes From Here
Recently with a friend and colleague Dr Harry Oldfield it pressed the case home that happiness is dependent upon doing what you really want to do. The art is to discover within your life something compelling, generative and never ending that will both enhance and improve the quality of your life.
Add the factors into it that you should do no harm to others and where possible do good works, a kind of dispenser of well being, and you will be on the right path.
I mention Harry Oldfield because he is the most dynamic scientist and an inventor whose work deserves a much wider platform than it currently receives. His books The Dark Side of the Brain and Harry Oldfield’s Invisible Universe by Grant and Jane Solomon introduce his work.
My own perception and cognizance is guided by the understanding that the physical world is one component of a Universe that is vast, multidimensional and largely uncharted to our current levels of appreciation. As a species we move falteringly forward but are resolutely based in a limited understanding of the nature of things. One thing, above all else, has become clear to me and that is that we see what we want to see, understand what we want to understand and miss the reality of a given situation.
That is not a matter of choice on our part. We are defined by our environment and the greatest emancipation for any of us is to escape the confines of that environment. This of course leads us into the realms of philosophical debate, a fine place to be if you can hold on to your hat. With our current levels of cognitive functioning it is easy to allude to thinking outside of one’s current paradigm but the doing of it, as ever, is the real trick.
As a teacher I have often pondered the nature of transference. The way in which a particular subject, concept or body of learning is transferred to an unknowing and virgin territory. That being some-one’s mind. It seems to me that certain pillars are driven into the ground, be they repetitions, practices, mantras, formulas or whatever and they are established within that territory or the individual’s mind. Once this is done in such a way as to tip the balance in favour of the subject matter, observed when a person starts to think in a way that utilises the learning they are being subjected to, a membrane is established.
This is like a net that is then used to capture matter related to the subject that in a sense powers the matrix established within the person’s mind. The more accomplished they become within that the greater the degree of learning they have achieved and so on.
The parameters, however, are defined by that which teaches or instructs. So the message here is to make sure that you access the finest quality education you possibly can in order to refine your understanding of the entire Universe at both the macro and micro levels.
Go out there, discover and become empowered, become something dynamic, something inspirational. Be leaders, trend setters, agenda drivers but do it in the name of the emancipation of humanity. It is all we have. It is the only thing worth aspiring to.
Greatness is not measured in material terms, it is the measure of what an individual achieves that resonates through the multi aspected facets of the Universe that we are engineered to operate within.
